The SOC CLUB participated in the Oil City GUSHER DAY parade again this year, and took SECOND PLACE in the float competition. MANY MANY thanks to Christina Allen and her daughter for making this event possible for our seniors.

The Seniors of Oil City Club (SOC CLUB) had its first "SOC" HOP on Friday evening, September 25th. About 60 area residents took part in an evening of 40's, 50's and 60's music played "juke box" style. The dancing began promptly at 7:00 PM. A surprise visit by ELVIS at 8:00 really rocked the SOC Community Center on Savage Street in Oil City. A "pot luck" supper accompanied the evening's festivities, and there were many "fuzzy dice" door prizes given away. Several donated raffle prizes were also awarded. MS Margaret Weaver was the lucky recipient of the "GRAND PRIZE"of a $25.00 gift card donated by WalMart in Vivian La. Many guests "dressed the part" for the evening including "poodle" skirts, "pedal pushers" and pony tails. The pictures that follow are a random sampling recording this fun filled evening.

SOC CLUB GRAND OPENING

After months of preparation and much hard work by the Mayor and Town clerk and others of Oil City, the "SOC CLUB" had its GRAND OPENING on Friday, February 13th with a "Lucky Friday the 13th Hat Party". The Seniors and their friends in Oil City gathered to see the newly redecorated SOC Community Center now located in the old Comunity Center building. Entertainment was provided by Mr. Denny Mattocks, and guests enjoyed a buffet of donated home made dishes and desserts. After an invocation by Brother Chad Mills of the First Baptist Church, an afternoon of friendship was topped off by the drawing for raffle prizes, and the judging of the best hat. What follows is a collection of photos depicting the celebration. We urge anyone who wishes to participate in the Caddo Parish Council on Aging nutrition program to come to one of the SOC CLUB meetings and sign up. The club will meet every Monday and Friday from 9:00 AM until 12:30 PM, with the meal provided by CCOA. Games, exercizes, and other activities will be available for everyone. We look forward to seeing you.

Welcome to our BLOG!! The Seniors of Oil City Club, to be known as the SOC Club, is designed to be a comfortable destination for the "over 60" crowd in the Oil City Louisiana area. We are planning our "GRAND OPENING" party on Friday, February 13th, 2008 from 3 - 6 PM. The theme of the party will be "Wear Your Lucky Friday the 13th Hat", which means wear your luckiest hat, your best hat, your most outrageous hat - ANY hat. There will be a prize for the best hat. Entertainment will be provided by Mr. Denny Mattocks. The Caddo Parish Council on Aging (CCOA) will begin it's hot meal program at the SOC Community Center (Currently the "OLD" Community Center at 310 Savage Street) on Friday, February 20th. You must be signed up as a member in order to participate. Membership forms will be available at the GRAND OPENING Party on the 13th. We urge all Oil City residents to come and join in the fun and see the newly refurbished Senior Center, meet the site supervisor,Thom Butenhoff, and help the Mayor "Chip" Dickey, the Town Clerk and Council, and the other friends and families of Oil City introduce the SOC CLUB to Oil City.
